A gift card holder for Book Lovers

3 years ago when I signed up to be a demonstrator and held my very first Stamp Camp, I asked….errr….begged a 1/2 dozen of my very close friends to come and fill a few empty spots so I could have more than the 3 people I didn’t really know in attendance.  In the end, I had a total of 12 ladies and about 10 of them remain my customers to this day.  One of my most regular customers, Janet never ceases to amaze me with her cards, scrap pages and project ideas.

Janet decided that she wanted to give her daughter’s preschool teachers a Chapters gift card at the end of the year and wanted something cute to put them in….so she borrowed part of her creation from the Halloween Top-Note treat box that I made and incorporated some coasters and came up with this:

 Here is the open view

Her Instructions are as follows………..

Inner Box

Start with the inner box from the tutorial by Angie

  1. Cut piece of cardstock 8 x  5 1/2
  2. Score the 8" side at 1", 3 1/2", 4 1/2", 7"
  3. Turn paper and score 1" in on each side
  4. Cut all the score marks up to the 1" mark as shown
Outer “Book” Cover
  1. 2 pieces of 4×4 chipboard coasters, cut down to 4 x 2 ¾
  2. Round corners with punch
  3. Cover both sides of both pieces with Designer Series Paper and sand sides down
  4. Decorate with embellishments as desired.
  5. Attach to front and back of Box with sticky strip.

Spine
  1. Card stock cut down to 4 x 2 3/8
  2. With the 2 3/8 side up score at ½ and 1 7/8
  3. Flip over and put the 4” side up and score between the above listed score marks to make the lines in the spine for that Book Effect.
  4. Attach a “bookmark” to the inside of the spine
  5. Attach Spine to base with sticky strip.

NOTE: Be careful when opening for the first time as the spine is stiff.

Thanks Janet!!!

Tutorial #1 – Top Note Gift Card Holder

Published by under Christmas,Tutorials

This is my first step-by-step tutorial so please be kind :-)

I designed this cute little project after flipping through one of the fundraising gift wrap booklets my 3 year old little boy brought home…..Now, YES I did order a few items (my first year to be supportive) but I saw these "gift card" holders in it and thought I could come up with a much nicer version…..so off to the basement I went to create my prototype and here is what I came up with.

Step 1 – Cut cardstock 5 X 8 1/2  ( you can get 2 holders per piece of 8 1/2 X 11)

Step 2 – Using your Scor-Pal , Score at 3 1/2, 4 1/4, & 5

Step 3 – Fold the score lines as shown

Step 4 – place the fold side along the longest side of the Top Note die

Step 5 – Be sure to place the folded edge just inside the perforated lines

Step 6 – Run the die through your die cutting machine

Step 7 – Use the gift card to make tiny marks and with a cutting knife, slice the center fold line from one mark to the other

Step 8 – place one strip of sticky strip on the BACK side of the folder on the outermost edge.

Step 9 – Seal the back fold together and ensure your card will fit

Step 10 – Decorate the front

Step 11 – Add velcro tabs to the inside at the points

Step 12 – Don’t forget to decorate your envelope too!!  ( SU’s gift card sized envelope shown here)

Hope this is clear, Don’t hesitate to contact me at amber@wildrosepapercreations.com for more info
